If you have a busy background or other distracting elements it can hide them. Or if your subject doesn't stand out from the background enough you can use FocalPoint to make you subject pop. FocalPoint is considered a creative effect, as such it would fit in the middle of your digital imaging workflow. Generally FocalPoint is used after color and contrast adjustments and after retouching. FocalPoint should be used before resizing and sharpening.
